Althea first entered the Malaysian market by storm in 2016, bringing K-beauty at an incredibly affordable price. 2 years later since they started, Althea has expanded globally, now offering shipping directly from korea to not only Malaysia, but also United States, Philippines, Indonesia and the rest of the world!
Now they have come up with their own skincare line, the bare essentials of skincare which is minimalistic, simple and fuss-free with only 3 steps in your routine. The Bare Essentials Line is priced extremely affordably: Contour Cleanser RM23, Primer Wter RM43, Fixer Cream RM50 or ALL THREE for only RM116.
The Bare Essentials line focuses on skincare fundamentals and drops all the non-essentials. It gives the benefits of all 10-step skincare routine but compacted into a 3-step routine instead. It is a solid routine which starts with 3-steps, Cleansing, toning and moisturizing. This skincare has been said to be the only 3 products you need in your skincare routine, can you believe it?
Now, Althea was kind enough to send me the entire skincare line for review purposes and I am so honored because a small time blogger like me would never imagine being able to work with such a big brand with a big heart! I am immensely excited to be able to try out this line since it is priced so affordably and my motto in skincare has always been ‘expensive products don’t guarantee results’. So I’ll be splitting the three products into separate reviews so be sure to check out each individual one linked down below:

Provided by Pixie FishMeatDie, the COSDNA analysis provides a few alarming triggers in the ingredients list, especially Lippia Citridara Leaf Extract. Chemistry has never been my favorite subject in class so I usually don’t bother with ingredient lists, but if you are especially OCD about ingredients, you might wanna double check and see if the triggers are something you should be alarmed of.
Most of the ingredients and instructions are in Korean, with only minimal words in English it seems.
The product comes out milky white, a pretty thick consistency as expected from a facial cleanser. It has tiny ‘beads’ in the product that you can feel when rubbing the product between your fingers to help exfoliate I think. It doesn’t have a strong scent and lathers easily when in contact with water! I personally like cleansers which lathers easily so this is a win for me. A tiny product goes a long way so all you really need is a pea-size amount!
You can see my short demo of the cleanser HERE on my instagram post!
I like how smooth it feels on my skin while lathering, it also makes me look like a white arctic monster in the process so why not. After rinsing the product off, I do notice that compared to my usual HG hadalabo gokyujun hydrating cleanser, this does feel a little tight on my skin. Like most cleansers, it does have a slight skin tight pulling feel to it. However, it’s not too overbearing, like some of the *st ives* cleansers I’ve tried.
This cleanser does do its job of cleansing my skin nicely, albeit even though I’m not used to a slightly dry and tight feeling (since I usually skip cleanser in the morning lol). However, I think it did perform pretty well in terms of cleansing since it still feels hydrating, just that my personal preference would incline me to go back to my beloved HG hadalabo. In regards to its claims of slimmer v shape face or promote blood circulation, I don’t notice any slimming or anything close to that lol. To be justified I’ve only been using the cleanser for less than 2 weeks so it’s only natural I don’t see results, but I do think the slimming claims are kind of overexaggerated.
- Affordable, great for value since 150g
- A little product goes a long way
- Slightly hydrating, doesn’t strip away natural oils too much and leave your face feeling squeaky clean
- Lathers easily
- Microbeads to help exfoliate skin
- Doesn’t break me out
- Leaves skin feeling slightly tight
- Personally, prefer other cleansers since I like my HG so much
IN A NUTSHELL,
I personally enjoyed the Contour Cleanser from the Bare Essentials Line and find that it is very worth it since it contains 150g of product and is priced at only RM23. If you are looking for a hydrating cleanser without the expensive price tag, I highly recommend trying this! However, if you’re kind of picky when it comes to cleansers like me, or you don’t like the slight pulling feeling of cleansers, you might be better off trying something else. All in all, I still do think this cleanser is worth a try!
Be sure to check out my other reviews on the two products in the line ABOVE since i totally love the other two products 😉
